DVCC sweeps all three races

DVCC Varsity runners begin the Tempe City Meet Varsity Race at Kiwanis Park in Tempe, AZ

The Desert Vista Boys Cross Country Team was busy defending the Tempe All-City Championship last Wednesday October 21st, 2015 on a tough, hilly 5k course at Kiwanis Park.

The first competition had the DVCC Freshmen racing their sister schools and finishing on top of the Freshmen race with a score of just 21 points! They were led by 2015 Tempe All-City Freshman Champion Travis Kearney with a winning time of 17:28. He was quickly followed by Lee Nasewytewa in 3rd place with a time of 18:28, Gordon Fuller in 4th place (18:38), Marshall Smith in 6th place (20:16), and Ryan Hickman in 7th place (20:21) to complete the scoring.

The next race was in the Open division in which Desert Vista sophomore Nick Thatcher claimed the 2015 Tempe All-City Open Championship title with a winning time of 17:14! Following him were senior Nathan Chan in 2nd place with a time of 17:19, junior Solomon Hanson in 3rd (17:36), junior Jacob Lemus in 5th (17:47). Senior Joe Kretschmar completed the top five with a 6th-place finish and a time of 17:50. The Junior Varsity squad took five of the top six places to easily win the Open race with an amazing score of just 17 points total!

Finally in last race of the day, the Thunder simply dominated their competition in the Varsity division. They were once again led by senior DJ Harris who is your 2015 Tempe All-City Varsity Champion with an amazing time of 16:03! DVCC didn't stop there as sophomore Habs Cheney was right behind him in 2nd place with a time of 16:14, followed closely by junior Chris D'Angelo in 3rd with 16:21, sophomore Reece Donihi in 4th (16:24), and senior Anthony Ramirez who rounding out the scoring in 6th place with a time of 16:30! That's right, the Thunder once again had five of the top six places to finish with 16 points, just one point from a perfect score. Also posting times for the Thunder Varsity were sophomore Aksel Laudon in 8th (16:43) and senior Jackson Snedecor in 12th with a time of 17:14!
