DVCC Freshmen kick off the 2015 Season at the Peaks Invitational in Flagstaff

On Saturday morning Sept 5th, 2015, DVCC made the short trek up I-17 to the high-altitude of Flagstaff, AZ to compete in the Peaks Invitational. The cool and rainy day provided a welcome change from the typical early-season conditions in Phoenix.

The meet was run on a 3.1 mile course and featured teams from all over Arizona, as well as a few from Nevada. Thunder was one of several Phoenix programs to compete in the event and delivered solid performances in both of its races.

In the Ascent Race, the DVCC boys took second place out of 15 teams.

Junior DJ Johnson led the team with a 7th-place finish in 18:33, followed by newcomer D'Angelo Piasecki (So) in 12th (18:51), Seniors Jackson Snedecor in 18th (19:11) and Joe Kretschmar in 30th (19:45), and finally Jacob Lemus (Jr) who ran a PR to place 38th (20:04). Rounding out the top seven were Juniors Jackson Hickey in 65th (20:43) and Clark Scalia in 83rd (21:33).

In the Open Race, the DVCC boys took second place out of 20 teams.

Freshman Travis Kearney started his DVCC running career off with a bang, placing 1st in a time of 19:12. He was followed by Josh Koury (So) in 4th (19:45) and Isaac Carrizosa (Sr) in 14th (20:18). Sophomores Keith Koleber in 18th (20:22) and Jack Willems in 23rd (20:33) completed the scoring. Gordon Fuller (Fr) 30th (20:49) and Michael Tuli (So) 34th (20:57) finished strong to round out the top seven.
