The DVCC Girls cross country team traveled to Irvine, California last Friday, Sep 16th to compete against some of the best teams in the nation in the 41st Annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic at Orange County Great Park.

In the Freshmen race, DVCC took 14th place, led by Lydia Leeman in 68th (22:38).

The sophomore girls team dominated the competition, led by Dana Pivin (10), with a very impressive surge into second place after being in third the majority of the race. After moving into second, Pivin finished with a new PR of 18:58.7, with her teammates Vanessa Acedo and Aspen Busby a couple minutes behind finishing in 11th and 12th place, tying with a time of 20:28.2. With great performances and PRs all around, the sophomore girls took home an easy win with no team coming close, with a team score of 37 and an average split of 20:19.

Later that night, the varsity girls competed in the Women's Sweepstakes Race against a very talented field and turned in a 20th-place finish. Three of the varsity girls medaled, placing in the Top 100 and all running sub-18 minutes: Emily Littlefield in 89th-place (17:42), Bailee Christofis in 96th (17:45), and Brooklyn Hanania in 104th (17:54). Izzy Villarreal in 137th (18:26) and Ava Withem in 154th (18:44) completed the scoring for DVCC. The Thunder proved that they give it their all even amongst the toughest competition.

The girls will run next this Saturday, September 24th, at the Western Equinox Cross Country Festival.
