Desert Twilight Cross Country Festival Recap

The DVCC Thunder Girls raced in the 18th-annual Desert Twilight Festival in East Mesa on the evening of September 27th. Senior Co-Captain Dana Pivin placed 47th overall in the top-billed Sweepstakes race with a time of (19:12) to lead the Thunder Varsity to a 17th-place finish. The Junior Varsity posted a 7th-place finish in the (combined) Large School Open race, with Bethany Yaso leading the way in 35th place (22:39). Madison Edens led the DVCC Freshman with a time of 13:32 in the Large School Freshmen (1.6 mile) race, good enough for 47th place overall. Read more...

Woodbridge Cross Country Classic Recap

The DVCC Girls traveled to Southern California on Saturday, September 21st for the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, a huge meet that draws the Best of the West. In the Seniors/Juniors Race, DVCC turned in first-place finish, led by Co-Captain Dana Pivin who took medalist honors with a time of 18:24. In the Sophomores Race, the Thunder were led by Laniya Begody in 21st with a time of 20:23. In the Freshmen Race, the Thunder grabbed 8th overall, led by Kendyl Taylor in 3rd place in 10th with a time of 19:31. Read more...

Fountain Hills JV Invitational Recap

On Saturday, September 14th, the DVCC Girls made the short trip to Fountain Hills, AZ to compete in the Fountain Hills Invitational, held at Fountain Hills Park. In the Large Schools 3.2k Junior Varsity Race, the DVCC JV team took 7th-place overall, led by Nicolette Margaron in 8th (14:19). Kenedee Nelson was next across for the Thunder in 23rd (15:09), followed by Anna Ketchington in 39th (15:50), and Olivia Uram in 48th (16:22). Fountain Hills Invitational Recap

On Saturday, September 14th, the DVCC Girls made the short trip to Fountain Hills, AZ to compete in the Fountain Hills Invitational, held at Fountain Hills Park. The DVCC Varsity squad raced to a 6th-place finish in the Large Schools 5k Varsity Race, led by senior Co-Captain Dana Pivin in 11th place (20:07). A trio of freshmen followed with Kendyl Taylor in 28th (21:04), Bailey Orr in 35th (21:15), and Jocelyn Prather in 50th (22:39). Western Equinox Cross Country Festival Recap

The DVCC Girls travelled to Freestone Park in Gilbert, AZ on Saturday morning September 7th to compete in the Western Equinox Cross Country Festival. In the Championship race, the Thunder were led to a 7th-place finish by junior Izzy Villarreal, whose time of 20:48 was good for 34th place overall. In the Open Race, DVCC captured 1st-place overall, led by sophomore Bethany Yaso who won the race with a time of 23:08. Chandler Invitational Recap

On Saturday morning August 31st, the DVCC Girls kicked off their 2024 season at the 30th Annual Chandler Invitational. In the series of class-based races, the DVCC Seniors were led to an 8th-place finish by Alianna Collins, who placed 16th with a time of 23:01. DVCC took 4th in the Juniors race, led by Izzy Villarreal in 14th (20:39). The Thunder grabbed eighth place in the Sophomore Race, led by Laniya Begody in 22nd (21:54). Bailey Orr finished 10th with a time of 21:39 to lead the DVCC Girls to a second-place finish in the Freshman Race. Read more...

State Meet Recap

On Saturday Nov 4th, 2023, the Desert Vista Girls Cross Country team took sixth place at the 2023 Arizona State D1 Cross Country Championship. Senior Co-Captain Brooklyn Hanania led DVCC with a 5th-place finish overall, crossing the line in 18:59. She was followed by junior Dana Pivin in 7th (19:14), freshman Teegan Kelly in 57th (20:56), and junior Lydia Leeman in 86th (21:36). Junior Co-Captain Vanessa Acedo completed the scoring in 96th (21:54). Also competing were freshman Emerson Rhodes in 99th (21:55) and junior Ali Collins in 124th (22:41). Read more...
