Regional Meet Recap

On Wednesday November 4th, the DVCC girls returned to Crossroads Park in Gilbert for the Division-1/Southeast Sectional Meet and posted a first-place finish, led by medalist Lauren Ping (17:24). The top-5 was rounded out by Katie Sigerud (18:03) in 2nd, Grace Ping (18:38) in 3rd, Emily Littlefield (19:13) in 6th, and Olivia Thatcher (19:35) in 10th. Also competing were Bailee Christofis (19:52) in 11th and Brooklyn Hanania (22:48) in 37th. With this result, DVCC qualified for the Arizona State Championship Meet on November 12th.

Phoenix Classic Recap

The DVCC girls headed to Crossroads Park in Gilbert for the Phoenix Classic on Friday evening, October 23rd. The Freshmen squad captured a third-place finish, led by Desiree Perez in 8th place overall (22:53); she was followed by Gryffyn Geist in 9th (22:55), Markee Billeter in 10th (23:07), Pia Soto in 15th (23:58), and Jenelle Davis in 18th (24:36). The Junior Varsity squad grabbed a fourth-place finish, led by medalist Grace Ping (19:31); she was followed by Chelsea Condon in 13th (22:39), Hanna Garcia in 14th (22:48), Ariada Woods in 19th (23:15), and Peyton Martin in 22nd (23:20). The Varsity team took first place, led by medalist Lauren Ping (17:24); she was followed by Katie Sigerud in 2nd (17:58), Brooklyn Hanania in 11th (19:30), Olivia Thatcher in 12th (19:32), and Emily Littlefield in 14th (19:35).

Casteel Invitational Recap

On Friday morning October 16th, the DVCC Girls returned to Mansel Carter Oasis Park Queen Creek to compete in the Casteel Invitational. The Thunder Girls captured a fourth-place finish in the JV/Open Race, led by sophomore Lena Stratton in 7th (23:30). She was followed by a pair of freshmen Pia Soto in 11th (24:10) and Jasmine McCoy in 38th (27:29). Sophomore Jessica Hilts was 45th (29:01). Senior Madeline Gibson completed the scoring with a 46th-place finish (29:08), just ahead of senior Steeley Beringer in 47th (29:08.1). The Thunder took ninth place in the Varsity Race, led senior Hanna Garcia in 41st (22:09).  Completing the scoring were freshman Marlee Billeter in 43rd (22:13), followed by a trio of sophomores Peyton Martin in 48th (22:18), Chelsea Condon in 56th (22:35), and Savannah Kveton in 59th (22:42).

Desert Twilight Cross Country Festival Recap

The DVCC Thunder Girls raced in the 14th-annual Desert Twilight Festival, relocated this year to San Tan Valley, on October 2nd. DVCC took 8th in the Freshman race, led by Marlee Billeter in 17th (23:59), and took 7th in the Open race, led by Hannah Garcia in 25th (22:49). The Varsity placed 2nd in the top-billed Sole Sports Sweepstakes race, led by Lauren Ping in 2nd (16:57)l.

Desert Daylight Invitational Recap

On Friday, September 25th, the DVCC Girls competed in the Desert Daylight Invitational held at Mansel Carter Oasis Park in Queen Creek. In the Seniors race, DVCC was led by Hanna Garcia in 21st place with a time of 22:09; in the Juniors race, Aruna Shrestha led the team with a 24:30 and took 27th place; in the Sophomores race, Peyton Martin finished 14th with a time of 23:48; and in the Freshmen race, Gryffyn Geist posted a 23:17, securing 11th place overall.

Western Equinox Cross Country Festival Recap

On Saturday morning Sept 19th, the DVCC Girls traveled to Freestone Park in Gilbert to compete in the Western Equinox Cross Country Festival. The DVCC Girls captured a second-place finish in the Varsity race, led by medalist Lauren Ping (17:01) and second-place finisher Katie Sigerud (17:43). They were followed to the tape by Emily Littlefield in 10th (19:23), Eve Boardman in 19th (19:58), and Bailee Christofis in 21st (20:11). The Thunder took third place in the JV/Open Race, led by Gryffyn Geist in 17th (22:14). She was followed by Hannah Garcia in 22nd (22:41), Marlee Billeter in 24th (22:47), Jenelle Davis in 28th (23:00), and Desiree Perez in 34th (23:08).

Chandler Invitational Recap

On Saturday morning Sept 12th, the DVCC Girls kicked off their 2020 season at the 25th Annual Chandler Invitational. In the series of class-based races, the DVCC Girls were led by Olivia Thatcher, who placed third overall in the Seniors race with a time of 18:59. DVCC took fourth place in the Juniors race, led by medalist Katie Sigerud (17:44). The Thunder grabbed second place in the Sophomore Race, led by medalist Lauren Ping (17:05). Brooklyn Hanania posted a time of 20:02 to lead the DVCC Girls to a first-place finish in the Freshmen Race.

State Meet Recap

On Saturday Nov 16th 2019, the Desert Vista Girls Cross Country squad grabbed its fourth Arizona State D1 Cross Country Championship. Lauren Ping is the 2019 State Champion, winning the race in 17:36. She was followed by Grace Ping in 2nd (17:57), Emily Littlefield in 9th (18:55), Olivia Thatcher in 16th (19:27), and Bailee Christofis in 21st (19:54). Also competing were Josephine Gregory in 23rd (20:01) and Eve Boardman in 62nd (21:04). DVCC posted a score of 49 points to win by a margin of 50 points. Read more...
