State Meet Recap

On Saturday Nov 13th 2021, the Desert Vista Girls Cross Country team scored 45 points to take second place at the 2021 Arizona State D1 Cross Country Championship. Junior Lauren Ping three-peated as the State Champion, winning the race in 17:39. She was followed by senior Katie Sigerud in 4th (19:19), and juniors Emily Littlefield in 5th (19:26), Bailee Christofis in 6th (19:32), and Bella Klein in 29th (20:46). Regional Meet Recap

On Wednesday November 3rd, the DVCC girls returned to Crossroads Park in Gilbert for the Division-1/Southeast Sectional Meet and posted a first-place finish, led by medalist Lauren Ping (17:39). The all-junior top-5 was rounded out by Bailee Christofis in 2nd (19:39), Emily Littlefield in 4th (20:02), Bella Klein in 9th (20:52), and Emery Ito in 15th (21:19). Also competing were junior Anna Lowman in 17th (21:26) and senior Aspen Busby in 27th (22:13). With this result, DVCC qualified for the Arizona State Championship Meet on November 13th.

Horizon Honors Invitational Recap

The DVCC girls headed to Pecos Park in Phoenix for the Horizon Honors Invitational on Wednesday, October 27th. The Thunder squad won the race, led by junior Bella Klein in 2nd place overall with a time of 20:35. Next across the line were junior Anna Lowman in 3rd (20:44), freshman Payton Eden in 5th (21:04), and junior Savannah Kveton in 9th (21:12). Another freshman, Aspen Busby finished out the scoring for the team with an 11th-place finish (21:35), just ahead of sophomore Marlee Billeter (21:36).

O'Connor Invitational Recap

The DVCC girls headed to Skunk Creek Wash in Glendale, the home course of Sandra Day O'Connor High School, on Saturday morning October 9th for the 18th Annual O'Connor Invitational. The Varsity took second place in the Varsity Race, led by medalist Bailee Christofis (18:58) and Emily Littlefield in second place (19:09). They were followed by Emery Ito in 11th (20:06). Scoring was completed with a close finish between Bella Klein in 22nd (20:55.2) and Anna Lowman in 23rd (20:55.6). The Junior Varsity took first place in the Open Race, led by medalist Brooklyn Hanania (22:01); immediately following were Peyton Martin in 2nd (22:23) and Maddie Gerlofs in 3rd (22:40). Next across was Regan Parnell in 8th, with Lena Stratton completing the scoring in 11th (23:58). The Freshmen took first place in the Freshmen Race, led by medalist Brooklyn Renda (21:49); she was followed by Vanessa Acedo in 6th (23:44), Eliana Abarca in 9th (24:37), Olivia Nichols in 10th (24:42), and Grace Chambers in 23rd (28:17).

Desert Twilight Cross Country Festival Recap

The DVCC Thunder Girls raced in the 15th-annual Desert Twilight Festival in San Tan Valley, on the evening of September 24th. The Varsity placed 3rd in the top-billed Sweepstakes race, led by medalist Lauren Ping (16:40). She was followed by Katie Sigerud in 10th (17:32), Bailee Christofis in 25th (18:18), Emily Littlefield in 41st (18:50), and Emery Ito in 45th (18:56). The Junior Varsity posted a 4th-place finish in the Large School Open race, with Anna Lowman leading the way in 12th place (21:02). DVCC took first in the Large School Freshman race, led by Brooklyn Renda in 3rd place (22:19).

Woodbridge Cross Country Classic Recap

DVCC traveled to Southern California on Saturday evening, September 18th for the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, a huge meet that draws the Best of the West. The Thunder Varsity turned in a 6th-place finish in the top-billed Sweepstakes Race, led by Lauren Ping in 6th-place overall (16:04), followed by Katie Sigerud in 16th (16:42), Bailee Christofis in 63rd (17:36), Emily Littlefield in 116th (18:11), and Emery Ito in 117th (18:11). In the Freshmen race, DVCC was led by Brooklyn Renda in 11th (20:58). In the Sophomore race, Marlee Billeter led the way with a 10th-place finish (20:48). Bella Klein posted a 38th-place finish (19:35) to lead the DVCC squad in the Varsity B race. In the Junior Varsity Race, Anna Lowman finished 18th (21:04) to lead the Thunder to a ninth-place finish.

Ojo Rojo Cross Country Invitational Recap

The DVCC Girls also made a trip to Tumbleweed Park in Chandler, AZ on Saturday morning September 18th to compete in the Ojo Rojo Cross Country Invitational. The Thunder took 5th place the JV/Open Race, led by sophomore Desiree Perez in 10th (24:18), followed by Lena Stratton in 14th (24:42), Sarah Ramallo Pisani in 40th (27:21), Jessica Hilts in 44th (27:47), and Lexi Hammel in 52nd (28:14). In the Freshman Race, Edith Wilde finished 8th (23:33) to lead the squad to a 2nd-place finish; also scoring were Vanessa Acedo in 10th (23:55), Olivia Nichols in 15th (24:19), Grace Chambers in 22nd (25:43), and Peyton Freshour in (28:28).

Peaks Invitational Recap

The Desert Vista Girls travelled up the hill on Saturday, September 4th to kick off the 2021 Season at the Peaks Invitational in Flagstaff. The Varsity took first in the Summit Race, led by medalist Lauren Ping (18:10), Bailee Christofis in 4th (21:06), Emery Ito in 8th (21:56), Emily Littlefield in 19th (22:54), and Aspen Busby in 22nd (23:16).  The Junior Varsity took third place in the Open Race, led by Payton Eden in 2nd place (23:01); also scoring were Peyton Martin in 5th (23:57), Brooklyn Renda in 11th (24:29), Regan Parnell in 34th (25:53), and Olivia Bagby in 47th (26:45).

On Thursday Nov 12th 2020, the Desert Vista Girls Cross Country team secured its second straight, and fifth overall, Arizona State D1 Cross Country Championship. Lauren Ping repeated as the State Champion, winning the race in 17:13. She was followed by Katie Sigerud in 2nd (17:38), Grace Ping in 6th (18:18), Emily Littlefield in 11th (18:49), and Bailee Christofis in 27th (19:33). Also competing were Olivia Thatcher in 29th (19:37) and Brooklyn Hanania in 39th (19:55). DVCC posted a score of 41 points for the victory. Read more...
