State Meet Recap

On Saturday Nov 4th, 2023, the Desert Vista Girls Cross Country team took sixth place at the 2023 Arizona State D1 Cross Country Championship. Senior Co-Captain Brooklyn Hanania led DVCC with a 5th-place finish overall, crossing the line in 18:59. She was followed by junior Dana Pivin in 7th (19:14), freshman Teegan Kelly in 57th (20:56), and junior Lydia Leeman in 86th (21:36). Junior Co-Captain Vanessa Acedo completed the scoring in 96th (21:54). Also competing were freshman Emerson Rhodes in 99th (21:55) and junior Ali Collins in 124th (22:41). Read more...

Regional Meet Recap

On Wednesday October 25th, the DVCC girls returned to Crossroads Park in Gilbert for the Division-1/Southeast Sectional Meet and posted a first-place finish, with all scoring runners finishing in the top-25. The Thunder were led by senior co-Captain Brooklyn Hanania who won the race with a time of 18:39, followed by junior Dana Pivin in 3rd (19:29), freshman Teagan Kelly in 16th (21:00), with scoing completed by pair of juniors Vanessa Acedo in 21st (21:45) and Ali Collins in 22nd (21:47). Also competing were sophomore Lydia Leeman in 23rd (21:50) and freshman Emerson Rhodes in 24th (21:51). With this result, DVCC qualified for the Arizona State Championship Meet on November 4th. Bell Gardens Invitational Recap

The DVCC Girls traveled to Southern California on Saturday, October 14th to participate in the 36th annual Bell Gardens Cross Country Invitational. In the series of Class-based races held on the 3-mile course, the DVCC Seniors were led by team co-captain Brooklyn Hanania who captured 1st-place with a time of 17:28, the Junior squad was led by Dana Pivin who also won her race with a time of 18:28, the Sophomores grabbed 3rd place, led by Lydia Leeman in 11th place (20:48), and the DVCC Freshmen took 2nd-place finish, led by Emerson Rhodes in 5th (21:12). Desert Twilight Cross Country Festival Recap

The DVCC Thunder Girls raced in the 17th-annual Desert Twilight Festival in East Mesa on the evening of September 29th. Senior Co-Captain Brooklyn Hanania placed 22nd overall in the top-billed Sweepstakes race to lead the Thunder Varsity with a time of (18:48). The Junior Varsity posted a 4th-place finish in the Large School Open race, with Co-Captain Vanessa Acedo leading the way in 4th place (21:50). Western Equinox Cross Country Festival Recap

The DVCC Girls made the trip to Freestone Park in Gilbert, AZ on Saturday morning September 23rd to compete in the Western Equinox Cross Country Festival. In the Varsity race, the Thunder were led by freshman Teegan Kelly, whose time of 20:49 was good for 6th place overall. The DVCC Girls made a trip to San Tan Foothills in Chandler, AZ on Saturday morning September 16th to compete in the Sabercat Invitational. The Thunder took 1st place the JV/Open Race, led by sophomore Lydia Leeman, who won the race with a time of 23:00. In the Varsity race, Senior Co-Captain Brooklyn Hanania crossed the line in 1st place with a time of 18:41 to lead the Varsity squad to a 1st-place finish. Read more...

Chandler Invitational Recap

On Saturday morning Sept 2nd, the DVCC Girls kicked off their 2023 season at the 29th Annual Chandler Invitational. In the series of class-based races, the DVCC Seniors were led to a twelfth-place finish by Co-Captain Brooklyn Hanania, who took 1st overall with a time of 18:06. DVCC won the Juniors race, led by medalist Dana Pivin (19:42). The Thunder grabbed sixth place in the Sophomore Race, led by Lydia Leeman in 24th (22:10). Emerson Rhodes finished 6th with a time of 20:22 to lead the DVCC Girls to a fifth-place finish in the Freshman Race. Read more...

State Meet Recap

On Saturday Nov 12th 2022, the Desert Vista Girls Cross Country team scored 65 points to take second place at the 2022 Arizona State D1 Cross Country Championship for the second year in a row. Junior Co-Captain Brooklyn Hanania led DVCC with a 5th-place finish overall, crossing the line in 19:12. She was followed by senior Co-Captain Bailee Christofis in 8th (19:25) and senior Emily Littlefield in 11th (19:41). A pair of freshman completed the scoring in a virtual tie: Izzy Villarreal in 20th (20:18.3) and Ava Withem in 21st (20:18.4). Also competing were sophomore Dana Pivin in 23rd (20:22) and senior Anna Lowman in 35th (20:55).
