Congratulations to the Desert Vista Girls Team for winning the State Cross Country Championship held on Saturday, November 16th at the Cave Creek Golf Course. The Thunder girls team score was 49 Points, winning by 50 points over second place Highland who scored 99 Points. Xavier College Prep was third at 106 points, followed by Red Mountain, Perry, and Chandler. Well Done Thunder Girls!!!
In trademark fashion, the entire Thunder team came out in full force and lined the course to cheer for the boys and girls teams. The girls team was represented by Freshman Lauren Ping who won the State Championship with a Freshman course record time of 17:36. Junior Grace Ping finished second overall in 17:57, followed by Freshman Emily Littlefield who finished 9th overall with a time of 18:55. Junior Olivia Thatcher was fourth for the DVCC team and 16th overall in 19:27. Freshman Bailee Christofis crossed the line as DVCC's fifth scorer in a time of 19:54, earning a top 21 medal. Senior Josey Gregory finished sixth for DVCC with a time of 20:01, edging past four runners from rival Highland and further helping the DVCC team score. Eve Boardman completed the outstanding race for the DVCC Girls with a time of 21:05.
The 2019 Girls overall team time of 1:33.52 ranks 4th overall among all girls teams in Arizona State Meet history, and second all-time in Desert Vista history - coming within seconds of the outstanding 2016 DVCC Girls who went on to finish 6th in the Nike Cross Country National Championship.
